Thanks for your input. I'll dig deeper. Perhaps an approach to this can come through Daniel Goleman and his work on emotional intelligence. Perhaps he has some hard data. Best wishes to you.

Paul - as I've told many business owners over the years, if it's hard for you to quantify, think how hard it must be for your prospective clients.

It's up to us as service providers to dig deep and really examine the value of the benefits we provide. To the degree we can do that, we capture some of that value for ourselves. To the degree that we cannot, or will not, we are left with inconsistent sales, and low prices.

We've codified an entire process for ROI and Valuation as part of our business acceleration coaching program. Stay tuned for the release of this new program.

Thanks for your efforts but I would like more information. I am aware of the value of quantifying the intangible results of soft skill training . And I'm aware of the need to say how a service favorably impacts a business. I just don't know how to come up with a number. Is there some research out there that you know of that comes up with a specific percentage of sales increase, for instance? Measuring heightened motivation, well-being and communication skill that result in increased productivity and leadership skill is difficult to quantify, to say the least.

Hi...I have just received an e-mail promoting the book "Be Unreasonable" and I couldn't resist reading the excerpt, and I couldn't resist posting on this blog. The title strongly resonated within me... I have frequently been told throughout my life that what I want to do, what I plan to do, is totally unreasonable. I'm a psychologist and have been for over 25 years. But what makes much of what I do in my life "unreasonable" is that because of a congenital condition, I can physically do very little for myself. I have always been in a wheelchair but have always pushed myself to the limit both in terms of work and personal pursuits. I guess the most profound "unreasonable" experience for me was when I went to Outer Mongolia 12 years ago. I stuck to my "unreasonable" desire and went. Fortunately, I had four friends who also had elements of being "unreasonable" who came with me.

I can really see how beneficial being "unreasonable" is in the business sector... but I would take the practice of being "unreasonable" into all realms of living. I encourage my clients to uncover their dreams to work out what it is they really want in their life, no matter how "unreasonable" or unattainable it may seem. Because I know, from first-hand experience, that being "unreasonable" really gets you where you want to be.

Take care... and thank you. Jeanne

Paul,
Your observations are true, but I have to point out that this is typical of Dalmatia, southern coastal part of Croatia, not of the whole country.
My guess is that it may be so because of Mediterranean temperament or it may just be because people like to get around rules which they don't perceive as serving them, regardless of other participants.

When it comes to business growth I think it is inevitable to think about how the government can be manipulated to give you an advantage. Some examples:
-Agency writes RFP aimed at your product/service
-Agency writes regulation making your product the only acceptable product in its class
-Agency writes regulation making other products illegal

So while I suppose the first two fall under sell more/find more, using the government to eliminate your competition is not listed.
